As of 1 August 2020, all of the rights and obligations (including
contracts) related to the activities of HITSA transfer to the Education and
Youth Authority without changes.
On Monday, 1st of June, the Tallinn-Helsinki cross border fibre connection between EENet and Funet, the Estonian and Finnish national research and education networks, was upgraded from 10 to 100 Gbps.
HITSA introduces Estonian e-education at the international conference. This year the 6th e-Governance Conference “Giant leaps start with small steps” will be held online on 18 – 21 May 2020.
President of
Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, moderated the online conference HITSA held with school students, teachers, education specialists
and parents to jointly find solutions that would support remote learning.
Following the declaration of the state of emergency
to prevent the spread of COVID-19, schools in Estonia switched to the
remote-learning system on 16 March, which increased the number of users of
e-learning platforms by ten folds.
HITSA is providing schools
with emergency guidance on how to quickly change their whole learning and
teaching mode to provide remote education.
Implementing the unique LoLa (low latency) streaming technology, the concert “Connecting Traditions” will take place on 20 December 2019 simultaneously in two locations: at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) and at the Hajibeyov Baku Academy of Music.
CEPS assessed European countries’ performance in digital
learning and found that Estonia, the Netherlands and Finland excel in the
digitalisation of education, while Italy and Germany finish last.
On one autumn Friday, eTwinning
project work took place in a completely unusual manner in the HITSA Future
Classroom Lab: students were leading the work, whereas the teachers served as
assistants.

the Ustus Agur scholarship recipient. The scholarship was awarded to PhD student Dmytro
Fishman from the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Tartu.
The topic of his thesis is "Data
integration and mining in bioinformatics".

scholarship for doctoral students.
The
Estonian government is to provide annual support of three million euros to
finance research and development activities in the field of information and
communications technology in the Tallinn University of Technology and the
University of Tartu in order to facilitate the creation of innovative and
knowledge-based solutions as well as their implementation in as many areas of
life as possible.
The Information Technology Foundation for
Education recognised more active technology area teachers on March 2 and gave
an overview of the results of the technology program and its impact on our
educational institutions. The ProgeTiger technology program has affected 85
percent of Estonian schools and 44 percent of kindergartens with is activities
in five years.
The new strategy of the Information Technology Foundation for Education for 2018 – 2020 highlights the importance of evidence-based approach in directing ICT education and technology use and supporting educational institutions in the pursuit of a digital revolution, both with information and know-how as well as modernisation of infrastructure.

November 23, the Information Technology Foundation for Education (HITSA) and
Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL)
announced the Ustus Agur scholarship holder. This year’s holder of the
scholarship is the PhD candidate of computer systems curriculum, Konstantin
Shibin, from the Tallinn University of Technology.
From 15 – 17 November the finale of the ICT competition
“Ventspils IT challenge 2017” took place in Ventspils, with almost 300
participants from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
HITSA opens call for proposals for the
StudyITin.ee program of 2018 for the higher education institutions with the aim
to raise teaching of ICT skills necessary on the labour market to the new level
and involve possibly innovative solutions to the study process. All Estonian
higher education institutions can apply for the support.
On 7th through 22nd of October, Information Technology Foundation for Education along with teachers, activity leaders, and others held 120 free workshops across Estonia to introduce fundamental truths of technology to both children and youths. The workshops took place within a Europe-wide Code Week with the support of ProgeTiger programme and Safely on the Web project.

Information Technology Foundation for Education
and the Tallinn University of Technology entered into the contract on 16
November 2016 for merger of the Estonian Information Technology College and the
Tallinn University of Technology. In connection with the merger on 1 August
2017, also the legal address of HITSA changed.
The International
Cyber Security Summer School for doctoral candidates and scientists will take
place on 10–14 July in Tallinn and its focus will be on attacks in cyberspace
that prey on human weaknesses, and on how to recognize and avoid them. The
summer school, being held for the third year, brings to Estonia experts and
practitioners of cyber defense, IT law, computer science and psychology, there
are participants from a total of 16 countries all over the world.

the Management Board of the Information Technology Foundation for Education
(HITSA) is Heli Aru-Chabilan.

An international Cyber Security Summer School for doctoral students and young researchers titled “Digital Forensics – Technology and Law” is held in Tallinn from July 3-8, and brings together leading cyber security and IT law practitioners to Estonia from all over the world.
From July 3-8, the International Cyber Security Summer School for doctoral students and junior researchers will be held at the Estonian IT College in Tallinn. The Summer School will focus on the relationship between digital technology and forensic science and how the two fields are inter-related from the legal perspective - "Digital Forensics — Technology and Law".
The management committee of the Study IT in
Estonia approved the programme for 2016-2020 in early March. The focus of the
programme remains on ICT studies in two universities – the Tallinn University
of Technology and the University of Tartu. The most important change is the
increased focused on the systematic inclusion of entrepreneurs in the
development of ICT curricula.
This weekend, university students created prototypes that solve everyday problems at the hackathon organised by Skype and the Information Technology Foundation for Education. The educational platform 3Ducation, which helps teach chemistry in a new way using augmented reality, became the winner.

From 24-26 April Estonian information technology (IT) students attended
the Skype University Hackathon 2015, which was organised by Skype and

included a cheap travel app and image recognition software.
