Estonian EdTech and HITSA to disrupt personalized learning via standardization

21. october 2019

On Monday, 14th October 2019 Estonian EdTech startups met at HITSA to discuss collaboration opportunities around standardization in education. Close collaboration with EdTech innovators allows HITSA to leverage better tools for Estonian schools.

The participants recognized the need for interoperability to foster innovation in education, including personalized learning, and discussed what is needed to enable data-driven EdTech solutions.

It is estimated that school failure alone costs 1.4% of GDP in Estonia. Personalized learning is expected to have a dramatic positive impact on school failure plus can increase well-being outside of school as well. This is why HITSA has taken the initiative to foster innovation in technologies, standards and products enabling personalized learning.

In order to facilitate personalized learning tools and technologies, HITSA has initiated a standardization working group, which aims to standardize metadata of educational resources such that personalized learning can be delivered cost-effectively by using AI and other modern technologies.
